TEACHING IN ARIZONA follows three Tucson educators
to deliver an intimate portrait of what it’s really like
to be a teacher today. It also depicts the impact of
the teacher workforce crisis on the future
generations that will influence the prosperity of a
state and a nation.
With decades of research showing that the quality of
the teacher in the classroom has the most significant
impact on student achievement, the high rate of
teacher turnover threatens the quality of education
all children receive. Fortunately there are teachers
who excel despite the challenges but they do so at a
significant personal cost.

Shot over a period of ten years, HIPPIE FAMILY VALUES is an intimate chronicle that explores the
legacy of the hippie movement and ethos through the stories of hippie elders, along with their
kids and grandkids. These families are members of a communal ranch in New Mexico.
Today, the legacy of the hippie counterculture of southern Arizona and New Mexico is a fluid
network of artists, organic gardeners and farmers, food co-ops and CSAs, community organizers,
educators and activists, musicians and dancers, alternative health practitioners and natural
builders, connected by a shared vision of social justice, communitarianism and sustainability,
which stands in stark contrast to the consumerist values of mainstream corporate America.
“A seamless, lyrical, poignant piece of work”
–Chris Wilson, J. B. Jackson Chair of Cultural Landscape Studies, University of New Mexico
